Dear Friends,

We are so grateful to everyone who joined us last week at MECA’s new office space for an inspiring evening with poet Kathy Engel. It was a night filled with powerful words, heartfelt connections, and beautiful live oud music by Ibrahim Safi.

Aracelis Girmay’s thoughtful introduction set the stage for Kathy’s reading, making the event even more meaningful.

                      .

Kathy’s new book, Dear Inheritors, resonates deeplyin these times, blending fierce compassion, condemnation of injustice, and a vision for a more just world. As the founder of MADRE, an international women’s human rights organization, Kathy has long been a force for change—one whose work has intersected with MECA’s mission for many years.

If you didn’t get a chance to pick up a copy of Dear Inheritors at the event, you can still find it at ShopPalestine.org. You’ll also find We Begin Here: Poems for Palestine and Lebanon, an anthology Kathy co-edited with the late Kamal Boullata.

We look forward to seeing you again soon—whether at another event or in the streets, standing together for justice in Palestine.

In solidarity,

All of us at MECA
