The Middle East Children's Alliance joins people all over the world who are watching the hopeful resurgence of a new democratic society in Egypt.  First in Tunisia then in Egypt, mothers, fathers, doctors, academics, students, taxi drivers, and ordinary people who have for many years been quietly suffering under the Mubarak dictatorship have taken to the streets in peaceful demonstrations.

On Friday, January 28, 2011, around 100 Israeli settlers from the illegal Bat Ayn settlement descended upon the Palestinian villages of Saffa and nearby Beit Ommar in the southern West Bank, shooting 17-year-old Yousef Fakhri Ikhlayl in his head, leaving him critically injured. Doctors said Yousef was brain-dead upon arrival at a Hebron hospital. He died early on Saturday.

My first semester at IUG, the Islamic University of Gaza, was quite intense; different life style, freshman zeal, new faces, new troubles, architecture major, and most significantly >> war.  My first final exam – Applied Physics – was scheduled to be on the 27th of December.  As usual, I was hardly prepared and I was actually wishing they’d postpone it!

Yeah, I ended up regretting that one.
