There is no stray bullet, sirs.
No bullet like a worried cat
crouching under a bush,
no half-hairless puppy bullet
dodging midnight streets.
The bullet could not be a pecan
plunking the tin roof,
not hardly, no fluff of pollen
on October's breath,
no humble pebble at our feet.

So don't gentle it, please.

MECA is supporting a fantastic new project in Masara Village just outside of Bethlehem. I just came back from a visit this morning and am so inspired by the women who get up every morning at 5am to make healthy food for the 400 children attending the villages schools and kindergarten.

Plant-a-Tree for Palestine: Strengthening the roots of resistance

For 112 years, the Jewish National Fund has played a central role in the on-going displacement and dispossession of Palestinians from their land and homes. The JNF was instrumental in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948 and continues to play a central role in maintaining Israel's regime of apartheid. The JNF controls vast properties belonging to millions of Palestinians, developing them exclusively for persons of “Jewish nationality,” a concept established and promoted in the JNF’s charter to exclude all others.

Your Emails and Phone Calls to UNICEF Worked!

By |December 24th, 2012|Categories: Stories of Our Work|

We are excited to share the news with you that, thanks in large part to the emails and phone calls MECA supporters made, Judy Shalom Nir-Mozes has resigned from her post as Chair of the Israeli Fund for UNICEF (IFU).

Together, we put pressure on UNICEF and they responded. Shalom Nir-Mozes writes that UNICEF was going to vet any comments she made, presumably with the aim of preventing her from making additional derogatory remarks about Palestinian children, and she resigned.

New Factsheet: Water & Sanitation in the Access Restricted Areas of the Gaza Strip

By |December 19th, 2012|Categories: News|Tags: , , |

113,000 people are impacted by Israeli restrictions in the Access Restricted Areas of the Gaza Strip. Sedqi Al-Qara, 50, owns 40 dunums (10 acres) of agricultural land. Sedqi used to grow almonds, orange, lemon, palm, and olives before the Israeli military leveled his land, destroying his orchards. "I was forced to switch to vegetables even though they need plenty of water which is not available in this area, but I had no alternatives” Sedqi said.

Learn more about Sedqi and thousands more like him from the factsheet below.
