“People, here, are living because they do not have the choice to die”

Report from Gaza by Safaa El Derawi, MECA Project Assistant
More than a year after the Israeli aggression on the Gaza strip in 2014, the situation here continues to get worse. The Israeli siege destroys any chance of living a decent life, the houses are still damaged and the feelings of pain, loss, and sorrow are still there in the depth of our hearts. Gaza's wounds are still open and will not heal very soon.

MECA Director Barbara Lubin writes response to Hilman Sorey's candidacy for KPFA board elections. Within a day, Sorey withdrew!
Here's Barbara's account:
I just learned that Mr. Hilman Sorey has taken his name off the list and he has decided not to run for the KPFA station board. Sometimes we feel hopeless and we think that we will always lose on the issue of Palestine. But every once in a while we trip them up and we win. This is one of those times.

“Nothing has changed since the war” Gaza One Year On
By Safaa El-Derawi, MECA's Project Assistant in Gaza The situation is really very bad especially in Khuza’a, Shejayia, and other areas close to the border where most of the houses were erased during the attack one year ago. People are still living in tents and trailers and surrounded by remains of homes. Nothing has changed since the war. People are trying to survive and get their basic needs met however they can. It is very sad to see many people begging, asking for money in the streets. Gaza wasn’t like this before. I notice how much it hurts deep inside them to do this.
Gaza, a year on from Operation Protective Edge: Water
by Sam Masters

To quench their thirst, the Gazans dug too deep, and drank too freely. Now the coastal aquifer that supplied much of their water is depleted and will never again offer a plentiful supply of fresh drinking water. With damage to infrastructure in the Hamas-Israel war, aid agencies say Gaza’s fresh water shortage has turned into a crisis.
