DR. RANIA MASRI is a long-time political activist, committed to issues of justice in the Arab region. She joined the “Citizens in a State” (mmfidawla.org) political party in 2016 to change the status quo in Lebanon through direct political action, and to build direct relations between the state and its citizens governed by rights and responsibilities, rather than by a relationship of clients via sectarian affiliations.
In 2017 she was elected President of the party’s Delegate Council. Currently, Dr. Masri teaches at the Lebanese American University LAU. Her academic publications focus on environmental sustainability and social movements — as well as boycott and liberation for Palestine. DR. OLFAT MAHMOUD is a Palestinian refugee born in Lebanon, whose life mission is to fulfill the dream of her parents and grandparents: to return to their hometown “Tarshiha” in Palestine. After working as a nurse for the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, she joined the Faculty of Human Sciences at Beirut Arab University where she studied Psychology and Women’s Studies, and then earned a PhD in Positive Psychology and Personality. Currently she is both an instructor at Beirut Arab University and the General Director of the Palestinian NGO Woman’s Humanitarian Organization.
Dr. Mahmoud has also published academic studies and is an activist for Palestinian and women’s rights. Her book “Tears for Tarshiha” is her first step on the road to return to her village “Tarshiha”. In 2015, she was selected to represent the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon at the UN celebration of the foundation of UNRWA in New York.
