Amira lives in Doha City near Bethlehem but her family are refugees originally from the village of Sufla near Jerusalem that was depopulated in 1948. Her father passed away when she was in grade school and her mother and older sister support the family.
Amira says:
“I’ve been a MECA scholar since 2020, since my freshman year basically, and to have such support from the beginning means the world to me. I chose a major that is male-dominated and I aspire to excel in it. The world we live in has already put us in too many obstacles, and I was always anxious that I will not be able to fulfill my academic and professional aspirations due to the financial situation, hence having this scholarship gave me room to breathe from one end, and the confidence knowing that complete strangers have faith in me to push forward, so how can I lack such confidence to achieve my dreams? So thank you MECA.”
