No one in Gaza can get enough water to meet their most basic needs but with your support MECA provides nearly a million gallons of clean drinking water each month for people living in tent camps throughout Gaza. We were even able to build or upgrade 10 solar-powered water purification units with materials and expertise found in Gaza.

Your year-end donation now will help MECA continue to find clean, safe drinking water and get it to people who desperately need it.

Amal is a water engineer and for many years she oversaw MECA’s Maia Project to install water desalination units in dozens of schools and neighborhoods in Gaza. She came back to work with MECA last year to lead our emergency water, sanitation, and hygiene projects. Here she shares her thoughts about her work and her life:

Before the genocide, when we were working on water and sanitation projects, we focused on marginalized areas and vulnerable groups. I provided assistance, listened to people’s stories, felt their suffering, and tried to help them by raising their voices up.

Now, I experience the same suffering that I used to sympathize with.

When the genocide began. I was forced to leave my home with literally nothing. Yet now, I need everything. Every small help I receive means so much to me, from a cup of clean water for my baby girl, to warm clothes for me and my children, or a hygiene kit containing basic personal care products, and so much more.

?I speak on behalf of every displaced Palestinian in Gaza who suffers to obtain their most basic rights, like a cup of clean water.

I feel this suffering, along with many others who may live in much worse conditions, but I am very lucky to work for MECA. I get the opportunity to provide clean drinking water, household water, install toilets for displacement camps, distribute hygiene kits and baby diapers. This really makes me happier and more grateful to myself, my people, and MECA.

Thank you for standing with Palestine.

In Solidarity,
All of us at MECA

P.S. Last week, Human Rights Watch issued a report called “Extermination and Acts of Genocide: Israel Deliberately Depriving Palestinians in Gaza of Water,” saying that Israel has deliberately deprived the majority of Palestinians living in Gaza of the bare minimum amount of water, which has contributed to death and widespread disease. Please make your year-end contribution now to provide water and more to people who are struggling to survive in Gaza.
