Today is the first day in a three-day ceaseifre. Here are a few stories from my morning.
Today is the first day in a three-day ceaseifre. Here are a few stories from my morning.
Shahid Barda Najeeh, an 8-year-old girl from Shajayia, came to ask me if the war is over. I put her in my lap and showed her pictures and drawings sent to me from friends around the world to ease children's pain in Gaza. She laughed and ran back to her temporary home in the school even though I had no answer for her. I mean even if this brutal assault stops, what's next?
Here is the X-ray staff. One of them is named Sami Thahir. He told me about his cousin Rami Kamal Thahir. Rami was a fire fighter who died while doing his job when Israeli planes bombed a market during the humanitarian ceasefire last week.
Also in the picture is the ambulance driver. He picks me up to bring me to the Red Crescent from my friend's apartment in the morning. We sing together on our way to work to keep our minds off the horror. And to reassure each other that we will get to our work place safely to do our job through the bombing.
All my love and respect to all ambulance and rescue staff in hospitals and health care units all over Gaza. All my love to our children and women who are standing facing this war.
Rest in peace to all our dead and may God heal all our wounded. Let us start working to rebuild. There is a lot of work to be done
