Dear Friend,

On August 1, 2014, after three unimaginable weeks of terror in Gaza, I found out that my cousins were killed with their children and grandchildren.

It hit me very hard when I heard that Israeli tanks shelled my cousins’ house in our hometown of Khan Younis and killed nine people—the oldest, Abed Alrahman El-Farra, was 54. The youngest, Lujain El-Farra, was only four years old.

I was so busy during that time, I hardly had time to grieve. Donations to MECA from the US and all over the world helped me set up an Emergency Team of doctors, nurses, social workers and volunteers.

Thanks to your support, our team was able to:

  • Take calls and visits from desperate parents—giving them help with children who were crying or screaming non-stop from the terror around them
  • Treat people with serious chronic health problems because the hospitals were too busy helping people wounded by the Israeli attacks
  • Deliver food and plastic sheeting to families whose homes were bombed
  • Provide activities, psychological support and clean water to families in emergency shelters
  • Distribute hygiene kits to people who had no running water, electricity, or even housing

Your support of MECA sustained our work through those awful 51 days last year, for many years before, and for over a year since.

Your support also sustained our spirits in the most difficult hours, when the bombs were falling, the hospitals were filled beyond capacity, and we wondered if the world has forgotten us.

Please join me again now in this life-saving work by making a special contribution to MECA. Your contribution is a gift to the lives and the future of Palestinian children and will be matched dollar for dollar by an anonymous donor.

Every dollar that MECA sends to Palestine comes to us with a message of hope, of solidarity and your commitment to stand with us.

For that I am grateful every single day.

With love from Gaza,

Dr. Mona El-Farra
MECA Director of Gaza Projects
