On Tuesday 11th May 2021, Palestinian health officials in Gaza stated 25 people, including nine children, had died in Israeli strikes.
Israeli forces struck multiple civilian locations in the City of Gaza and Northern Gaza in response to Hamas’ warnings that Israel should stop violating the Holy Mosque of Al-Aqsa and stop expelling Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah from their homes, which is a Palestinian village located in East Jerusalem.
Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah have been encountering a renewed Nakba on a daily basis since the last Nakba occurred in 1948. Israeli settlers with the support of Israeli government are aiming to wholly Judaize the City of Jerusalem by forcibly expelling Palestinians from it. Therefore, Israeli government has recently launched a violent and systematic assault on Palestinians of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood to illegally expel 8 Palestinian families from the neighborhood.
Furthermore, in the past few days, Israeli settlers with the support of Israeli Police were organizing a gathering to storm into the Aqsa Mosque with the aim of provoking Muslim’s feelings and trespassing the Holy Mosque of Al-Aqsa.
Hamas’ warnings consisted of launching small-scale rockets into agricultural lands on the border outside the Gaza Strip, which belongs to Israel.
However, this particular Israeli assault on Gaza is different from the previous ones, since Gaza has been already suffering a lot on its own. It should be noted that Gaza has been under land-sea-air blockade for 15 years. During these 15 years, Gaza has been under three major assaults by Israel in 2008, 2012, and 2014- all of which caused incalculable damage to each and every life sector.
On the economic level, people in Gaza have been barely able to afford their fundamental needs, due to the soaring rates of unemployment and poverty. What led these rates to further exacerbate is the crippling national, Covid-19 lockdown that had been imposed for a month or so, which made people unable to have access to their work and caused so many businesses to struggle and shut down.
Gaza is expected to face so much brutality of Israeli forces.
