Since the Great March of return began, 127 people have been killed in Gaza strip, over 14,000 injured, hundreds are in critical condition. Over twenty children have been killed and hundreds injured. Many of them terrified after all this violence. MECA supports programs that help children in Gaza deal with trauma.
Following is an article about children written by a long-time friend of Meca’s. Nasser Alayasa, who is a Board member and Founding Director of MECA’s partner in Dheisheh Refugee Camp, Shoruq Organization:
IN THE past few months, specifically since March 30 this year, 15 Palestinian children have been killed in the Gaza Strip and about 1000 others injured.
That happened during the Return demonstration marking the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (“The Catastrophe”), where Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their towns and villages in 1948.
On May 14, a day before the anniversary of the Nakba, the United States decided to move its embassy to occupied Jerusalem and to celebrate the occasion.
Not far from Jerusalem, tens of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip marched towards the fence that separates the Gaza Strip from the area within the 48 borders.
They tried to cross the fence and hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli forces and torched hundreds of tyres there.
