No place to hide for children of war in Gaza and Syria

The BBC's Lyse Doucet who has been following the lives of six Syrian children, and who has just returned from reporting in Gaza, reflects on how war will shape the futures of young people there for decades to come.

What is more heartbreaking than displaced, hungry, thirsty, injured, terrified, unsafe kids? This is all the children in Gaza on their special feast day. 

There is heavy shelling everywhere against Gaza city. I moved with my freinds to a relatively safer place. There ere successive airstrikes, artillery shelling and warship missiles against the Gaza port and surrounding areas. This is close to where I live. 

I ask you why all this excessive use of power? It is not about Israel's security. It is the nature of occupation.

Milk, food, and hygiene kits

MECA team with help of Red Crescent Society of the Gaza Strip visited and distributed milk, food and hygenic kits to 678 familes at UN schools during the humanitarian ceasefire on Saturday. Here are a few photos from our visits. We have added hygiene kits after treating many children and famlies at the Red Crescent and hearing about the health risks at the schools and finding so many children with diarrhea and severe dehydration.

VIDEO: Injured Palestinians arrive at hospital run by MECA partner after Israeli shelling of UN school

At least 15 people were killed today when an Israeli tank shelled a UN school in northern where many families were taking shelter. As many as 200 people were injured in the attack. Many of the injured were transported to nearby Al-Awda Hospital run by MECA's partner the Union of Health Work Committees. They are doing an amazing job providing emergency and other health care services to patients under impossible circumstances. As part of our emergency aid to Gaza, MECA has helped the Union of Health Work Committees purchase medicine and medical supplies.

(Reuters) - Gazan authorities said Israeli forces shelled a shelter at a U.N.-run school on Thursday, killing at least 15 people as the Palestinian death toll in the conflict climbed over 750 and attempts at a truce remained elusive.
