From Gaza, I write while the Israeli military operation is continuing, the toll of injured and killed is rising.

2.2 million Palestinians are subjected to the terrifying sounds of the jet fighters, the tanks firing, and the nonstop drones. My neighborhood is like a ghost city, people go out only to buy necessities.

Tens of families near the eastern edge of Gaza are taking refuge in schools. We have no shelters, nowhere really safe but for many who are very impoverished with terrible and unsafe housing conditions, they have sought relative safety in nearby schools.

Many families in Gaza depend on daily very small income and are living from hand to mouth. We are distributing emergency food parcels to these families as they have been stuck at home with no work for 4 days now during the brutal Israeli attacks. MECA & our partners have acted quickly to prepare and distribute food parcels for 500 families.

People are being killed in their homes along with their families and neighbors. So far there are 33 dead including 7 children and more than one hundred injured.

We are hoping for an immediate ceasefire. While I’m writing, I heard 4 successive bombings not far from my home. It is very loud and scary.

I need to go down now and I will continue later.

I am now at my neighbors flat and will write a few more lines. I am holding on like all the people in Gaza.

My neighbor’s son is 8 years old. He is shaking with fear and asked me “Are we going to die?” I tried to comfort him while thinking of the children who have seen their parents and neighbors killed right in front of them.

Right now, the worst thing is the feeling that we are alone and forgotten in Gaza.

Please spread the message about the horrors of the Israeli occupation, about the ongoing Nakba that has been killing and displacing Palestinian people for 75 years.

Your support and solidarity is highly needed and appreciated at this minute.

From Gaza, with love,

Dr. Mona El-Farra
