For eight long and horrifying months, MECA staff, partners, and volunteers in Gaza have been taking enormous risks every day to provide families in their communities with food parcels, tents, water, new clothes, hygiene kits, diapers, hot meals, blankets, and more.
They could lose their lives any second—all of them have lost someone they loved dearly—but they will not stop.
With a million already-displaced people forced to leave Rafah, MECA’s work in the nearby areas is more critical than ever before! Please make the most generous contribution you can now to so that we can provide whatever critical aid we can find—from eggplants to toothpaste.
Recently, your support of MECA made it possible for our Gaza team to:
• Deliver boxes of fresh produce from farmers and other food items like rice and lentils to 14,000 families now in Khan Younis (next to Rafah) and “Middle Areas” just north.
• Provide soap, shampoo, sanitary pads, laundry detergent, toothbrushes and toothpaste that we found in Gaza to restore health and dignity for 1,000 families
• Prepare about 8,400 hot meals a day even after we had to close our community kitchens in Rafah
• Bring clean water by truck to families who fled from the North to Gaza City, and to several areas in areas of Khan Younis for people who fled from Rafah
• Begin installation for four new solar-powered “Maia” water desalination and purification units to provide drinking water to thousands of families daily
People often ask me, “How are you getting things into Gaza?” The answer is that from the moment the genocide began, MECA’s Gaza staff started getting food and other necessities from stores, farms, factories, and warehouses. Despite the extreme destruction and the scarcity, they continue to find and distribute whatever they can. And MECA’s partnerships with local and international organizations is also key to our ongoing work. Just this weekend, we received more than 10,000 ready to eat food parcels from the World Central Kitchen that just came in from Egypt and we are already distributing them.
I hope you are proud, as I am, of the effort and dedication of MECA’s people in Gaza. Please stand with our courageous and dedicated team by making a contribution to continue providing desperately needed aid to people who have lost everything.
In solidarity,
Zeiad
