The people who live in these areas continue to suffer. This is an interconnected Global problem. It is crucial that we\, students\, scholars\, understand the history of these wars. The panel will focus on our interconnectedness and the necessity of global citizenship. When most people want peace\, why are there so many wars? \n\nSaturday\, March 30th \, 2018\, 9am-12pm\nSpark Teachers Institute\, a day of Professional Development\n“Teaching Palestine”\nMarlboro Graduate Center\, 28 Vernon Street\, Brattleboro\, VT \nContact: Nicole Awwad – nica.awwad@gmail.com \nWorkshop Content: Palestine connects to many subjects we already teach: immigration\, Manifest Destiny\, environmental struggles\, the justice system\, and international human rights. But discussion and critical thinking about Palestine are often silenced. In this interactive workshop we will explore many ways—including youth voice—to bring Palestine into our classrooms. \nAfternoon with Judy Dow: \nThe Eugenics Survey of VT\, or the so-called ‘cleansing’ of VT\, targeted mostly poor (including African American\, French Canadian\, and Catholic) and indigenous families. In this session we look back at this history using primary source documentation. Teachers will both participate and learn to teach and research local stories of both the land the people using town records and mapping exercises. You will go home with a unit\, ready to use with your students. \nProfessional Development Credits: For teachers who wish to receive professional Development Credits: the full day workshop will include 3 PD credits for a $135 fee.
