Apply for a Scholarship

The Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA) administers three scholarship funds for Palestinian university students in the West Bank and Gaza.

August 15, 2010: Scholarships are given for a one-year period but are renewable as long as the student maintains their academic standing. All scholarships are paid directly the universities directly and will be credited to the students’ accounts.  We look forward to hearing from you! You can contact Josie with any questions.

Guidelines for applying for an Elly Jaensch Memorial Scholarship and Ramzy Halaby Education Fund:

Scholarship recipients shall be Palestinians living in the West Bank or Gaza Strip studying at a university or college in the West Bank or Gaza Strip.

For returning university students: The completed application form including essay along with an official transcript from your college or university must be submitted no later than July 1, 2010. PLEASE NOTE: THE DEADLINE HAS PASSED AND WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING ANY ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS FOR RETURNING UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.

For first-year university students: The completed application form including essay along with an official copy of your tawjihi scores must be submitted no later than July 31, 2010. PLEASE NOTE: THE DEADLINE HAS PASSED AND WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING ANY ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS FOR RETURNING UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.

Only complete application packages will be considered unless there are extenuating circumstances, explained in writing and submitted as part of the application.

Applications will be rated based on 1) financial need, 2) prior academic achievement, and 3) commitment to giving back to your community. Priority will be given to prior recipients, women, and refugees.

Applicants with grade point averages below B or the equivalent will generally not be competitive unless the reason for the lower grade point average is an extenuating circumstance, explained in writing and submitted as part of the application.

Guidelines for applying for a Tree of Life Scholarship:
Scholarship recipients shall be Palestinian refugees residing in refugee camps in the West Bank or Gaza Strip and studying at a university or college in the West Bank or Gaza Strip.

For returning university students: The completed application form including essay along with an official transcript from your college or university must be submitted no later than July 1, 2010. PLEASE NOTE: THE DEADLINE HAS PASSED AND WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING ANY ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS FOR RETURNING UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.
