The Middle East Children's Alliance is excited to join Break the Silence Mural Project, the Olympia-Rafah Sister City Project and the Estria Foundation for the Maia Mural Project! This inspiring new project expands on our long partnership with Break the Silence Mural and Arts Project and is designed to use art as a tool for educating people about the water crisis in Palestine and building connections between communities. The project uses culture and technology to make a small break in the siege on Palestine’s Gaza Strip

The Maia Mural Brigade traveled to Palestine in June and July 2011 to paint a series of murals focusing on environmental justice, solidarity, and water in particular, or "maia" in Arabic. A group of US artists and activists were joined by local Palestinian artists and children in designing and painting the murals. The mural locations were schools and kindergartens where MECA installed water purification and desalination units as part of our Maia Project

Making things even more exciting, the MAIA Mural Project joins the ESTRIA Foundation’s “Water Writes Project."  The MAIA Murals are the 10th mural in the “Water Writes Project” of 10 murals in 10 cities around the world  focusing on the universal right to clean water.

The project is also co-sponsored the Rachel Corrie Foundation, The International Trauma Treatment Program and the Gaza Community Mental Health Programe.
